I don't why, but as I was reading the newspaper, the above image popped into my head, so I went in search for it. This is one of my favourite pictures of myself. On the back in my mom's handwriting is the date, Sunday, April 22 1979. I'll soon be 6 years old. To the left of me are my friends, Jeff and Kim. We're sitting on my front step. I just love what I'm wearing and wonder who dressed me that day. I never wore skirts or dresses unless my mom made me, so I can only assume since it was Sunday, maybe we had returned home from church, and I threw on this sweater to head outdoors for some playing. Kids don't care what they're wearing to play in, it's the parents that pull on the reigns before they get out the door. "You can't wear that outside!" they'll announce.I think songs, smells and images have the strength to pull us back to a particular time in our lives. Looking at this picture brings back so many memories of that house, our neighbours, our street, and the constant outdoor activity of kids running through yards (there were no fences). I love the kid in this image. She's shy, a fast runner, loves to play and has a great imagination. I know that description fits a lot of kids, but she's special...to me.

That is one fabulous picture! I have a very similar photo in the sense that the kids are lined up...I'll try to scan it in and post it.
Awe...I too was taken back in time at first glance of this photograph. I remember that little girl being so full of energy and wonder. How does your inner child within speak to you when you look back upon 'the age of innocence'? I recall that although 'she' was all about creative fun and getting dirty (without a care whether or not she was dressed in skirts and leotards!) there was a gravitational pull towards nature and creative writing. I admire that little girl who grew up following her bliss and producing such wonderful writings and photographs in her adulthood. Congratulations to you 'l'il' sister. xox
I'm truly touched. Thanks for being a supportive sister and friend. I hope we continue to spur each other towards our talents and desires. big love, k
